Make Excellence a Business Habit

Coworkers high fiving at the office

In only ten minutes of watching this video, I went from laughing so hard I was almost crying, to holding back tears because the message was so heartfelt.

No exaggeration, pinky swear.

This was my response to Dr. Rick Rigsby’s commencement speech about making a positive impact on the world. It’s so good, I’ve now watched the entire video four times and just had to share.

Dr. Rigsby was a professor at Texas A&M and served as character coach for the Aggies football team. He’s now a corporate coach and author of Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout.

His speech is filled with small anecdotes from his life that really hit home like, “My mother said for nearly 30 years my father left the house at 3:45 in the morning.” When asked why, his father’s response was, “Maybe one of my boys will catch me in the act of excellence.”

It’s a message of perseverance, humility, righteousness, and wisdom, and it speaks to me. It inspires me to strive for excellence in my business, and it makes me want to instill this drive in my small children.

Check out this video and share it with your employees. It’ll leave you and them as better business people and better humans.
